Resumo:
The objective of this study was to raise awareness among the school community about the importance and quality of water consumed by teachers and students in two rural schools located in the Lake Grande region of Santarém, State of Pará. Considering water, a valuable asset essential to maintenance of life and also an important vehicle for the transmission of waterborne diseases, so that the population, as in rural areas, who do not have access to any type of basic sanitation are more susceptible to the consumption of contaminated water, both human and animal consumption and also used in irrigation for food. Thus, a research was developed in two public schools, which counted on the participation of teachers and students. Water is a very broad theme that can be worked from different approaches in this work we chose to address the issue of the importance and quality of water in the school community. The results show through the research knowledge about the water consumed in the daily school life, discussions were inserted on the importance of water, which contributed to the social and environmental development of the community and water quality for consumption, as well as the teaching learning of the students of these schools. There was a need to train managers and educators to consciously adopt hygiene measures in drinking fountains, filters and reservoirs in riverside schools.
