Resumo:
This study aimed to characterize the profile of hospitalizations in the Lower Amazon Health Region, Western Pará, from 2018 to 2020. This is a descriptive and quantitative study based on data collected from DATASUS. The causes of hospitalizations were preferably related to pregnancy, childbirth, and puerperium; infectoparasitic diseases and injuries, poisonings, and external causes, with the last two causes related to males and browns. As for age, it was observed that children from 1 to 4 years old and individuals over 50 years old had high percentages of hospitalization for infectious and parasitic diseases; hospitalizations for pregnancy, childbirth and puerperium and for injuries, poisonings and external causes were higher in the 20 to 29 age group; hospitalizations for digestive diseases were related to the male gender; and genitourinary diseases to the female gender, but in both, the predominant age group was 20 to 39 years old. It is observed that the main reasons for hospitalizations were due to preventable causes, which could have been reduced or cured through actions aimed at quality care, resource management, and improvements in the quality of education and socioeconomic conditions. The region under study still faces difficulties in relation to access to health care, permanence of professionals in locations of difficult access, and fragility in management
