The proposal for data collection was bibliographical and searched in books, articles and manuals to in the documents sought to know the guidelines established by the Ministry of Labor and Employment through Regulatory Norms 5, 6, 15 and 17 wich cover the works in general and the employees of university libraries. The university library that is the focus of this study, because it is a place of great production and distribution of knowledge and together with is university librarian, should be contemplated with the information and ergonomic practices in order to know and learn about the orientations of ergonomics and so can apply them in your work environment. It was found in the research that some university libraries of other states of our country are already obeying the instructions established by NR 17, referring to the librarian works need to be reached in greater proportions in relation to this information. It is conclude that as librarians begin to have information about ergonomics and its functionalities, consequently, they will work more confident, secure and better protect their health. O atual estudo tem como finalidade central investigar as principais teorias da ergonomia e a sua aplicação em biblioteca universitária, levando em consideração apenas os aspectos físicos da ergonomia. O estudo se caracterizou por uma pesquisa exploratória com abordagem teórica, a partir das informações já existentes sobre o tema ergonomia e a sua aplicação nas bibliotecas universitárias. A proposta para a coleta de dados foi bibliográfica e buscou nos livros, artigos e manuais para obter o entendimento do tema central da ergonomia e nos documentos procurou- se conhecer as orientações estabelecidas pelo Ministério do Trabalho e Emprego por meio das Normas Regulamentadoras 5, 6, 15 e 17 que contemplem os trabalhadores em geral e os colaboradores das bibliotecas universitárias. A biblioteca universitária que é o foco desse estudo, por ela ser um local de grande produção e distribuição do conhecimento e juntamente, com o seu bibliotecário universitário, devem ser contemplados com as informações e práticas ergonômicas a fim de conhecer e aprender á respeito das orientações da ergonomia e assim possam aplicá-las No seu ambiente de trabalho. Constatou- se na pesquisa que algumas bibliotecas universitárias de outros estados de nosso país, já estão obedecendo as instruções estabelecidas pela NR 17, referente a ergonomia do MTE, entretanto, de maneira lenta, porque os trabalhadores bibliotecários precisam ser atingidos em proporções maiores em relação a essa informação.
