The librarianship, as disseminator source of information and educational guidance counselor in work of rehabilitation and resocialization of intramural community, aims to contribute to more active participation of social library science practices by users of prison libraries. The general purpose of the study is the prospect of expanding the role of the professional librarian to the social context, in order to minimize the feeling of isolation and idleness of the community, as excluded from access to information and so restrained in their freedom and their rights as citizens. Recognizing that laws ensure to all, irrespective of class, race, origin, religion, among others, access to educational opportunities and vocational training. Demonstrate to information professionals that there are several different fields of action, which require specialized training according to the environment and the specific type of users. As methodology, descriptive characteristics were adopted, with observation and data collection, through questionnaires with semi-structured questions to the subject object in question. Previously the literature surveys were conducted in the field of librarianship and related fields. The society and governments should rethink existing models imprisonment, therefore, they have only contributed to the lack of populational control of the prison system, scrapped and which does not work as resocialization process, however, only of punishment, isolation from society. There should be more investment in prevention, in social and educational policies, provide the opportunity for the individual to the labor market through training, education, wage improvements, among others. Libraries, integrated into the work of the librarian playing roles, as already reading practices used in prison, have been of great value, especially in combating low self-esteem, which, according to reports of education professionals, impair learning and the performance of inmates in all situations they are involved.
