Resumo:
In a world increasingly inundated by digital stimuli and constant distractions, the role of school libraries as centers for encouraging reading and disseminating knowledge is more vital than ever. These spaces are not merely book depots, but environments that can be dynamic, promoting students' intellectual curiosity, creativity and personal development. The general objective of this work is to examine the role of the librarian in the reading mediation process, with this, three more specific objectives were developed, with the purpose of developing the research, namely: a) Identify what the incentive actions are reading developed by the librarian; b) verify the necessary requirements for the librarian to act as a reading mediator; c) point out the participation of school management in reading mediation activities. The research is characterized as bibliographic, documentary, field research and case study, of a qualitative nature, with the School of Christian Education as its field, located in Manaus, Amazonas, and as subject the librarian. The data collection instrument was an interview semi structured, applied with the librarian, in which her participation in mediating reading among students was analyzed. Based on the content analysis obtained through the interview, it was found that the library projects have had positive results, generating great student participation during the implementation of the projects. With the results obtained, it is concluded that the library is able to develop its activities, increasingly encouraging reading among students, however, it suffers from a lack of employees for better mediation.
