The main aim of this work is studying the heavy vehicle passing traffic and its’ implications
in the main streets of Tucuruí-PA, intending to propose actions willing to discipline this
traffic, mitigating its negatives aftermaths. Given the city’s geographic location and that its
access roadways converge to downtown, there is a typical vehicle traffic going in and out of
the town, circulating thru the main streets, without stopping, which shall be categorized as
truck passing traffic. This traffic, once interacts with the local vehicle flow, creates troubles
between the urban traffic e and cargo flow, which are directly related with population’s
quality of life, negatively interfering in safety, fluidity and convenience in local traffic. In
order to realize this work was used a five step method: literature review, main problems
detection caused by urban roads truck traffic, data collection about heavy vehicle traffic in
Tucuruí-PA, analysis of significance of impacts caused in local flow and, at last, study of
alternatives to decrease the observed problems. From this work the heavy vehicle passing
traffic occurring in Tucuruí’s mains streets was characterized and was detect the problems
arising, such as, pavement’s deterioration, flow’s obstructions with consequent reduction in
speed causing slow, which, on its turn, causes more accident’s risks and longer time travels.
With traffic characterization and detected problems’ analysis were studied alternatives willing
to decrease the existing conflicts, proposing at the end of the work, the regulation of heavy
vehicle passing traffic in Tucuruí’s central area, through the prohibition of this traffic in peak
periods, in order to give better convenience, fluidity and safety for the pedestrians and all
others vehicles that flows around the central area. |
