In this case, it is necessary to use different learning performance strategies. Meaningful learning becomes effective when there are relationships between new concepts and previous knowledge stored in cognitive structures. In this context, concept maps can be used as tools for the construction of hierarchy and knowledge. A tool to identify students' prior knowledge. A concept map is a diagram that represents the relationship between concepts contained in a propositional hierarchy. The tool is an active learning style. Concept maps have been increasingly studied and explored in the educational field for their potential as a methodological tool in order to achieve an effective teaching-learning process. In view of this, an undergraduate class of the Degree in Chemistry was submitted to qualitative-quantitative research. This class participated in a process of production of concept maps about the content of Chemical Bonds, being a map built without theoretical foundation and another built after an expository class of both the content and the process of elaboration of concept maps, to evaluate the differences among these. The data were collected and analyzed in a quantitative and qualitative way, and it was possible to observe a considerable improvement in the maps prepared after classes. The methodology was considered effective and satisfactory in the evaluation scope, proving to be an important subsidy for the teaching of chemistry. No ensino de química é possível destacar as dificuldades que os alunos têm em conectar as teorias desenvolvidas em sala de aula com a realidade ao seu redor. Nesse caso, é necessário utilizar diferentes estratégias de desempenho de aprendizagem. A aprendizagem significativa torna-se efetiva quando ocorrem relações entre novos conceitos e conhecimentos prévios armazenados nas estruturas cognitivas. Neste âmbito os mapas conceituais podem ser usados como ferramentas para a construção da hierarquia e do conhecimento. Uma ferramenta para identificar o conhecimento prévio dos alunos. Um mapa conceitual é um diagrama que representa a relação entre conceitos contidos em uma hierarquia proposicional. A ferramenta é um estilo de aprendizado ativo. Os mapas conceituais vêm sendo cada vez mais estudados e explorados no âmbito educacional por sua potencialidade como ferramenta metodológica a fim de alcançar um processo de ensino-aprendizagem eficaz. Diante disto uma turma de graduação do curso de Licenciatura em Química foi submetida a uma pesquisa quali-quantitativa. Essa turma participou de um processo de produção de mapas conceituais acerca do conteúdo de Ligações Químicas, sendo um mapa construído sem fundamentação teórica e outro construído após aula expositiva tanto do conteúdo, quanto do processo de elaboração de mapas conceituais, a fim de avaliar as diferenças entre estes. Os dados foram coletados e analisados de forma quantitativa e qualitativa, sendo possível observar considerável melhoria nos mapas elaborados pós-aulas.
