Resumo:
Gastric neoplasia is one of the most common diseases in Brazil and worldwide, mostly on the northern side of Brazil. Both treatment and illness are linked to the symptoms of the patients' nutritional conditions. The purpose of this study is to conduct a literature review of the effect of the use of dietary supplements and immunomodulators on the nutritional status of patients suffering from gastric neoplasia. All the research goes to BVS descriptors: “Gastric Neoplasia”, “Nutritional Supplements” and “Nutritional Status” from the Health Science Descriptors (DecS), and in PubMed, ScienceDirect, and CAPES journals the descriptors used were “Gastric cancer”, “Nutritional Status”, “Oral nutritional Supplements” and “Immunonutrition” from the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH); so, after widespread demand it was found 27 articles that corresponds the inclusions or exclusion criteria. Most of the authors explained the benefits of nutritional supplementation and immunomodulators to prevent weight loss, frailty, and cachexia, as well as, lower incidence of postoperative infections, and better immune profile, besides the effectiveness of omega 3 use. On the other hand, there have not been found works which show differences between the use or non-use of this. With this, it is possible to conclude that all nutritional strategies are effective in handling nutritional state, prognosis and quality of life for these people. In these terms, there are further studies to be done to show how immunonutrition has been in nonsurgical treatment performance.
