Thereafter it is possible to think about the importance of this professional of librarianship working in a school environment, since this one may be considered one of the greater encourage in reading’s promotion. It is important to know different definitions about the school library, its role in integrating the school's educational system. Thus, the main goal of this research is to analyze and understand how the information professional is inserted in school education, its competence and informational literacy, its educational role exercised through reading practices carried out in a school environment. Then, the research on the librarian’s importance in the school environment is qualitative, exploratory and qualitative character, with strong help of the bibliography available on the subject in Brazil. We consider that the presence of the school librarian is of paramount importance in order to achieve a development of the reading habit, improving students' learning inside and outside the environment, practices that only give satisfactory results with the realization of the partnership between the teacher and the disseminator of information. We understand, at the end of this discussion, about the educational function of the school librarian, that the librarian can be considered an educator once, in partnership with the faculty of the school, performing literacy practices, helping to improve students' learning. Estudo sobre a importância do reconhecimento do bibliotecário enquanto profissional que atua como educador no ambiente da biblioteca escolar suscita novos campos de embate e debate quanto à sua competência informacional e o seu papel de incentivador e facilitador à leitura. A partir disso, admite-se pensar na importância deste profissional da Biblioteconomia atuando em ambiente escolar, pois este é considerado um dos maiores incentivadores da promoção da leitura. Faz-se importante conhecer diferentes definições acerca da biblioteca escolar, seu papel na integração do sistema educacional da escola. Assim, o principal objetivo desta pesquisa é analisar e compreender como o profissional da informação está inserido na educação escolar, sua competência e letramento informacional, seu papel educacional exercido através de práticas de leitura realizadas em ambiente escolar. Desta forma, a pesquisa sobre a importância do bibliotecário no ambiente escolar é de carater qualitativa, exploratória e qualitativa, com forte auxílio da bibliografia disponivel sobre o tema no Brasil. Consideramos assim que a presença do biliotecário escolar é de suma importância para se alcançar um desenvolvimento do hábito da leitura, melhorando o aprendizado dos alunos, dentro e fora do ambiente, práticas que só dão resultados satisfatórios com a realização da parceria entre o professor e o disseminador da informação.
