Introduction: The Amazonian Region, in its socio-spatial organizational
process, has established a close relationship with the waters. Among them, the formation
of small villages in Islands along the Guajarino Estuary, specifically in the Combu Island,
located 1.5 km away from the state capital, with a population that has maintained a
unique lifestyle over the years, commonly called "the riparian", that organize their social
and cultural habits in a direct relationship with the rivers and Nature. Method: This work
consists of qualitative approach research, specifically of the Case Study type, conducted
in the Combu Island; two female members of the same family, aged 61 and 36 years, with
fixed residence on the island for more than five years, took part on this research. Results:
We have found that proximity to the urban center generates occupational dynamics where
both traditional and modern purposes are merged, in such a way that satisfies social and
personal demands, forms and meanings, a process that we have called Occupational
Intersection in this research. Conclusion: The analysis of the occupational intersection
from the universe of this research in the Combu Island on is a promising possibility not
only for Occupational Science but also for Occupational Therapy practice as a facilitator
of the valuing and maintaining processes of traditional practices and knowledges,
safeguarding them beyond the physical territories through interventions that encourage
the maintenance of symbolic values and cultural aspects. |
