Considering that the word even has a vast semantic field that can be explored in several statements, and that traditional grammars teach and classify it only as a preposition and adverb, research is done on the semantic values contained in the word until when used as an argumentative operator, in order to carry out a study on the grammatical aspects with emphasis on the word even in order to analyze the discursive strategies about its use. To do so, it is necessary to show the main differences between the grammatical classes preposition and adverb and the argumentative operators; present the discursive strategies from the use of the word to and point out the concepts of the traditional grammarians and differentiate them from the linguistic studies concerning the word even. Thus, a descriptive, exploratory, qualitative, bibliographic research is carried out. And for this, a search was made in the Brazilian Corpus database with statements containing the word even in order to analyze it, in order to differentiate preposition from argumentative operator. Given this, it was found that even if the grammars classify this word as a preposition, the word even, was used several times with a discursive value directing the arguments to a conclusion already sought; and that in statements which presented more than one argument, the argumentative operator even constitutes a hierarchy in the argumentation, thus, the argument emphasized by the operator becomes stronger than the others within an argumentative scale, which allows the verification that the word even, as an argumentative operator, performs the function of presenting the strongest argument within a text; and that carries a strong semantic load.
