This research refers to a Course Completion Paper, which aims to show the importance of the reading carried out by deaf individuals who are users of Libras, in contact with written Portuguese, when entering the literary environment, specifically, the Brazilian Literature, through of the poetic texts of the poet Carlos Drummond de Andrade. Aiming to describe the strategies of reading poetic texts worked with deaf participants users of the Brazilian Sign Language (Libras), in a literary event. The
methodology of this research is a qualitative approach, covering some theoretical references concerning art, literature and the reading of poetic texts and the interpretation of the meaning of the literary text. The pedagogical didactic strategies used during the event served as a basis to guarantee the interaction between poetic text - deaf reader, favoring the understanding and the development of poetic texts reading strategies, respecting their linguistic and cognitive specificities.
