Resumo:
It identifies which practices of reading incentives the school librarian mediates in the life of children, from its collegial base, thus, the study deals with the meaning of the school library with the active participation of the librarian, defining it in the function of mediator that this professional has. It studies actions of reading incentive, carried out in a school library by the librarian of the private education network with students of fundamental education. It uses the bibliographical research for the theoretical reference, in which it approaches the reading and its importance for the growth and development of the individual. It is a research with qualitative approach, of the descriptive type, to show the activities developed in a library. It uses as technical procedure the interview, performed with a librarian who works in a library of a primary school, in order to collect the primary data. It emphasizes that reading is fundamental in the individual formation of the human being and in the social, cultural and intellectual construction. It makes a brief approach to elementary education, which is in this mode of teaching where reading is essential in the training and intellectual development of students. It reinforces that with reading reading practices, it will be possible to have readers from childhood, emphasizing the role of the librarian in activities such as story time, held in school libraries in order to instill in students the habit of reading. Finally it is realized that it is through reading that the individual develops creativity, imagination and acquires knowledge.
