It studies actions of reading incentive, carried out in a school library by the librarian of the private education network with students of fundamental education. It uses the bibliographical research for the theoretical reference, in which it approaches the reading and its importance for the growth and development of the individual. It is a research with qualitative approach, of the descriptive type, to show the activities developed in a library. It uses as technical procedure the interview, performed with a librarian who works in a library of a primary school, in order to collect the primary data. It emphasizes that reading is fundamental in the individual formation of the human being and in the social, cultural and intellectual construction. It makes a brief approach to elementary education, which is in this mode of teaching where reading is essential in the training and intellectual development of students. It reinforces that with reading reading practices, it will be possible to have readers from childhood, emphasizing the role of the librarian in activities such as story time, held in school libraries in order to instill in students the habit of reading. Finally it is realized that it is through reading that the individual develops creativity, imagination and acquires knowledge. Identifica quais práticas de incentivos a leitura o bibliotecário escolar media na vida de crianças, desde sua base colegial, assim, o estudo trata da significação da biblioteca escolar com a participação ativa do bibliotecário, definindo-o na função de mediador que este profissional possui. Estuda ações de incentivo a leitura, realizadas em uma biblioteca escolar pelo bibliotecário da rede de ensino privado junto a alunos da educação fundamental. Utiliza a pesquisa bibliográfica para o referencial teórico, no qual aborda a leitura e sua importância para o crescimento e desenvolvimento do indivíduo. Trata-se de pesquisa com abordagem qualitativa, do tipo descritiva, por mostrar as atividades desenvolvidas em uma biblioteca. Utiliza como procedimento técnico a entrevista, realizada junto a uma bibliotecária que atua em biblioteca de uma escola do ensino fundamental, a fim de coletar os dados primários. Ressalta que a leitura é fundamental na formação individual do ser humano e na construção social, cultural e intelectual. Faz uma breve abordagem do ensino fundamental, que é nessa modalidade de ensino onde a leitura é essencial na formação e desenvolvimento intelectual dos alunos. Reforça que com práticas de incentivo a leitura, será possível ter leitores desde a infância, acentuando o papel do bibliotecário em atividades como a hora do conto, realizadas em bibliotecas escolares visando inculcar nos alunos o hábito de ler.
