As part of the research about the urban transformations on the city of Manaus between the years of 1920 and 1967 the text argues about the contradictions of the urban space production that is drained of igarapés, which are used for several domestic activities such as washing clothes, carrying water, fishing, and also as a place for travelling and having fun. In the case of traveling and circulation, the text detaches a small boat known as catraia and the work of its conductor, called catraeiro, who handles with hability two faias, carrying between fifteen to twenty passengers. Besides, the text talks about the popular parties that meant beams of possibilities and the desire from the popular segments to own and control their space. The text concludes that in the Manaus with clean igarapés and crystalline waters there was abundance of nature and also abundance of time to enjoy the human conditions.
