Resumo:
The history of Brazil is marked by patriarchy in which men have always been considered capable and able to act in the decision-making process in society, while women were limited to taking care of the home and children. Due to numerous struggles waged by women from different social classes, their participation in the Brazilian political sphere increased, amplifying their condition as subjects in the political, social and economic spheres. Given these assumptions, this research has the general objective: to diagnose the advances and setbacks of female representation in politics in the municipality of Parintins/AM. In order to achieve the objectives proposed in this study, the study methodology consisted of a bibliographical review, using the teachings of theorists and scholars dedicated to the topic. A qualitative approach was carried out, with the main instrument being a standardized interview applied to two councilors from the Parintins City Council, aiming to obtain a broader perception of the problem investigated. Thus, it was found in the political context investigated that female representation is greatly reduced, revealing social and cultural aspects that determine male predominance in the public sphere. In this sense, the need to increase female participation in Brazilian politics is emphasized, in order to correct or mitigate the effects of historical discrimination, and consolidate and improve the fundamental rights constitutionally guaranteed to women, effectively ensuring democracy in the country.
