This research investigates the role of university libraries in traditional indigenous knowledge. The specific objectives of this study were to identify in the literature the concepts of traditional knowledge and indigenous knowledge to map the performance of university libraries in higher education institutions in the North of Brazil about traditional indigenous knowledge in their contexts. This is an investigation with a qualitative approach and an applied nature, based on a literature review used to support the reflections made. The study also sought to identify the efforts of university libraries in the seven northern states of Brazil to involve indigenous knowledge in their environment, based on a survey carried out using an online questionnaire. According to the literature, university libraries must foster culture, affirm their social role, and promote the inclusion of indigenous peoples' knowledge in their environments. About the information provided by the survey participants, it can be concluded that the practices reproduced in libraries in the North of Brazil do not work to include indigenous knowledge, as recommended in the literature. |
