Resumo:
This study explores the experiences of women who balance motherhood, work, and studies while pursuing an undergraduate degree in Social Work at the Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM), Manaus Campus, highlighting the complexities and challenges faced in their triple journey. The research aims to understand how these students, most of whom are mothers engaged in the labor market—whether in formal employment or self-employment—while also caring for young children, cope with the overload of responsibilities and the impact of this dynamic on their academic trajectory. To achieve this, a qualitative methodology was adopted, using electronic questionnaires applied to student mothers, who reported the difficulties they face, their time management strategies, and the importance of support networks and institutional policies in enabling their continued higher education. The results reveal that these women struggle with feelings of guilt and inadequacy due to the challenge of dividing their time between academic life and childcare, which often leads to academic failures and delays in their studies. Furthermore, it was found that evening courses are a frequent choice, allowing them to work during the day to support their families. The study emphasizes the need for a more welcoming and inclusive academic environment that provides adequate support and assistance for student mothers, reducing dropout rates and promoting a more equitable university experience. By listening to these women, this research contributes to understanding the necessary conditions for the Social Work undergraduate program at UFAM Manaus Campus to become an accessible and transformative space for mothers and working women.
