Kumon is a method that aims to develop self-learning in students in an individualized way
through the disciplines of mathematics and mother tongue. The innovation of the Kumon
method lies in the fact that the student is not taught how to solve the proposed material. It is
structured in such a way that the student reaches the solution of the exercises alone, thus
developing his reasoning, concentration and autonomy ability. The objective of this work was
to analyze the possibilities and limitations of the Kumon method in teaching-learning of
mathematical contents exposing the positives and negatives of this method. The study was
based on a research with a qualitative and bibliographical approach, in which articles,
dissertations and books were used as a research source, which were found both in physical and
online format on the teaching of mathematics through the Kumon method. It was noticed that
one of the factors for this method to contribute so much to the learning is the fact that it requires
of the student the following characteristic: discipline, generating positive results as the
concentration, the interest, the fixation of content, the autonomy and interpretations, then
learning. The results indicate that in certain situations it is necessary to use alternative
methodologies for a more effective learning, and this method is adequate to meet this need,
which is of great assistance to the teacher |
