The innovation of the Kumon method lies in the fact that the student is not taught how to solve the proposed material. It is structured in such a way that the student reaches the solution of the exercises alone, thus developing his reasoning, concentration and autonomy ability. The objective of this work was to analyze the possibilities and limitations of the Kumon method in teaching-learning of mathematical contents exposing the positives and negatives of this method. The study was based on a research with a qualitative and bibliographical approach, in which articles, dissertations and books were used as a research source, which were found both in physical and online format on the teaching of mathematics through the Kumon method. It was noticed that one of the factors for this method to contribute so much to the learning is the fact that it requires of the student the following characteristic: discipline, generating positive results as the concentration, the interest, the fixation of content, the autonomy and interpretations, then learning. The results indicate that in certain situations it is necessary to use alternative methodologies for a more effective learning, and this method is adequate to meet this need, which is of great assistance to the teacher O Kumon é um método que visa desenvolver o autodidatismo nos alunos de forma individualizada por intermédio das disciplinas de matemática e língua pátria. A inovação do método Kumon está no fato de não se ensinar ao aluno como resolver o material proposto. Ele é estruturado de forma a fazer com que o aluno chegue à solução dos exercícios sozinho, desenvolvendo, assim, sua capacidade de raciocínio, concentração e autonomia. O objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar as possibilidades e as limitações do método Kumon no ensinoaprendizagem de conteúdos de matemática expondo os pontos positivos e os pontos negativos deste método. O estudo foi baseado em uma pesquisa com abordagem qualitativa e bibliográfica, na qual utilizou-se como fonte de pesquisa artigos, dissertações e livros, que foram encontrados tanto em formato físico quanto on line sobre o ensino da matemática através do método Kumon. Percebeu-se que um dos fatores para esse método contribuir tanto para o aprendizado é o fato dele exigir do estudante a seguinte característica: disciplina, gerando resultados positivos quanto a concentração, o interesse, a fixação de conteúdo, a autonomia e interpretações, desenvolvendo, então o aprendizado.
