This paper analyzes the projects of social reintegration of the convicts offered to inmates of
the Temporary Detention Center of Porto Nacional, with a time frame between the years 2016
and 2019. The focus sought refers to the establishment of the possible relationship of benefit
as to the availability and participation of inmates in educational activities during the
completion of the sentence and its consequences for social reintegration. In order to reflect on
the theme, after discussing the functions of the penalty, the rights and duties of the convicts,
an overview of the fulfillment of the sentence in Porto Nacional will be presented, with a
study of the projects developed inside the prison unit. The relevance of this research lies in the
production of knowledge about the importance of educational assistance to prisoners and its
consequences for the prison system, aiming at the promotion of public policies for this
segment. The research can be situated in a qualitative aspect, without neglecting the rich
aspects of the quantitative approach, with an exploratory, descriptive, and analytical study.
The exploratory aspect occurs through the survey of data related to the educational sphere in
the prison space. In the descriptive and analytical aspects, it is observed the analysis of
official documents and internal documents of the prison unit, emphasizing the inductive bias,
that is, from data located in the prison unit, it follows for more comprehensive considerations.
