This work has as its central theme: black women and schooling. The general objective is to
analyze how the presence/absence of black female teachers in the classroom can influence the
construction of the ethnic-racial identity of black female students. The following themes were
addressed in the theoretical framework: Ethnic and racial identity; Black teachers; Black
women; Black students; Gender and Race. As for the methodology, this is a descriptive and
exploratory research, with a qualitative approach. Data collection was carried out through semi-
structured interviews, with the collaboration of four black women. The data analysis was
performed through content analysis, from which it was possible to realize that the presence of
black female teachers significantly influences the construction of identity of black girls. In
addition, it was possible to evidence that if the black teacher has a positive racial identity
construction, she will have a greater chance of contributing to the valorization of the ethno-
racial identity of her students. |
