Resumo:
This paper aims at combining theater and cinema in the documentary genre, tracking the presence of fabulation, herein seen as a space for communication aesthetics. Addopting the methodological approach of dismantling the documentary CATARSE – The First Three Decades of Palmas Theater, we rely on concepts such as staging, occurrence, experience, performance, memory, forthcoming and fabulation as evidence that notwithstanding the fact that documentaries are known for having different features from those seen in fiction cinematography, it holds no fictional traits. Such is theoretically supported by the fields of communication, arts, philosophy and sociology, as well as by works of personalities of both theater and cinema, such as Eduardo Coutinho, Bertolt Brecht, Meyerhold, Vertov, and Charles Chaplin.
