The Supervised Curricular Internship was carried out at the Veterinary Hospital of the
School of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science of the Federal University of Goiás
(HV/EVZ/UFG), in the areas of Anesthesiology and Veterinary Emergency, from March 13 to
May 24 of the year 2023, totaling 400 hours. The internship was under the supervision of
Prof. Dr. Sandro de Melo Braga and guidance from Profª Dra. Andrea Cintra Bastos Torres
Passos.
This report contains a description of the location and routine of the internship
activities carried out and a report of a case monitored during this period. During the
internship, a female poodle was treated, who underwent a total unilateral mastectomy as
treatment. In this procedure, we chose to use the technique of locoregional anesthesia by
tumescence, in addition to anesthetic maintenance with isoflurane. During the anesthetic
procedure, the patient showed stability of the evaluated parameters, not requiring the use of
complementary anesthesia in the intraoperative period, in the postoperative period, through
the evaluation of the pain scale, there was no need for complementary analgesia to the animal.
Therefore, the present report presents a case of locoregional anesthesia in a female dog
submitted to total unilateral mastectomy.
