The Toponymy is the discipline that studies the toponyms, in other words, the proper names of places. It is considered part of linguistics and has intrinsic relations with the geography, history, anthropology and other knowledge areas. This research consists in to know the names of indigenous origin present in Geography textbook 7th grade of elementary school, considering a toponymic and interdisciplinary perspective. As methodological approach, we follow the onomasiological plan of research: through a generic concept, identifies the possible variables of consulted about the names of places in the textbook sources. We opted for a qualitative descriptive research. Within this approach, a kind of documentary research will be performed, since the instrument used for document analysis and data collection is the textbook LD. As result of research conducted in LD Geography of the 7th year of elementary school, we have identified 85 toponyms of indigenous origin, which make up the corpus of research. In the analysis, we sought to understand, from the identification, description and etymology of these names, possible motivations regarding the appointment of indigenous place names, as well as the context in which these names are presented in LD Geography. The results show that the physical and natural aspects, such as flora, fauna , hydrology and soil characteristics were the main motivational sources for the denominator . The study of place names, applied to the context of teaching , enable the expansion of information in different areas of knowledge regarding the teaching-learning process of the student .
