This action triggered the need to use technologies in the classroom. Given this context, this work aimed to use the free software Gcompris as a teaching-learning tool, in the formation of reading and writing, in the curricular activities of elementary school students in a municipal school in the city of Santarém-Pará. The work was carried out during the activities of the Institutional Project of Teaching Initiation Scholarship - PIBID, of the Degree in Educational Informatics of the Federal University of Western Pará. The activities were carried out with 09 (nine) students and pedagogical coordinators of a school. during a nine-week development of the Reading and Writing Project in a room prepared with computers and play objects. It was verified through the use of the tool that it contributes to the construction of meaningful learning of the target group and provided improvement in the teaching and technological insertion in the school. A utilização de softwares educacionais livres como ferramenta facilitadora do processo de ensino-aprendizagem tornou-se necessária a partir do momento em que as políticas públicas adotaram projetos de implementação de laboratórios de informática nas escolas. Essa ação desencadeou a necessidade do uso das tecnologias em sala de aula. Diante deste contexto, este trabalho visou a utilização do software livre Gcompris como ferramenta de ensino-aprendizagem, na formação da leitura e escrita, nas atividades curriculares dos alunos do Ensino Fundamental I em uma escola municipal da cidade de Santarém-Pará. O trabalho foi desenvolvido durante as atividades do Projeto Institucional de Bolsa de Iniciação à Docência - PIBID, do curso de Licenciatura em Informática Educacional da Universidade Federal do Oeste do Pará. As atividades foram realizadas com 09 (nove) alunos e coordenadores pedagógicos de uma escola municipal durante nove semanas de desenvolvimento do Projeto Leitura e Escrita em uma sala preparada com computadores e objetos lúdicos.
