It seeks to understand by means of field research the reasons that justify the distancing between the students of the Avertano Rocha school and its school library, having as a research instrument the structured questionnaire. It analyzes the data, which reveal that the reasons for distancing may be the lack of incentive projects and adequate physical structure, such as ample space and updated collection. It proposes that activities to encourage reading be shared among librarians, teachers and school coordinators. Discorre sobre o tema biblioteca escolar e o incentivo à leitura. Busca compreender por meio de pesquisa de campo os motivos que justifiquem o distanciamento entre os alunos da escola Avertano Rocha e sua biblioteca escolar, tendo como instrumento de pesquisa o questionário estruturado. Analisa os dados, os quais revelam que os motivos de distanciamento pode ser a falta de projetos de incentivo e de estrutura física adequada, como espaço amplo e acervo atualizado.
