Resumo:
The objective of this work is to analyze the adhesion of the proposal of the extension project "Science on the Island: Education and Scientific Divulgation in the Amazon", carried out 13 years ago by students and professors of the Science Club of UFPA, in order to promote the interaction between the local populations and scientific knowledge in riverside schools of Belém do Pará. We highlight the impacts of the action perceived by students, teachers and other social actors involved in the 2017 edition that took place at the Marta da Conceição State School in Cotijuba. A total of 33 participants were interviewed among students, teachers and residents of the island, including workshop exhibitors, partners and organizers of the event. It was verified that the project is structured considering the reality lived by the riverine students, enabling them to get in touch with strategies that value and seek to integrate diverse existing knowledge in the Amazon. Thus, "Science on the Island" adopts a bidirectional communication process, in line with contemporary theories of Social Communication and Public Communication of Science.
