Mass transit system is an important component for the development of societies. Lack of urban
planning in Brazilian cities causes many issues related to the quality of transportation services.
In view of this problem, a method for assessing the accessibility of the Urban Public
Transportation System (TPU), with a study case in Tucuruí-PA, is presented in this research, in
order to assist in decision-making in relation to urban planning and later improvements in the
service offered. In order to carry out this method, it was necessary to use the database of
Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) census tracts (population density), the
OruxMaps mobile application that allowed the registration of the bus route and the city map.
From these data were generated the areas of coverage of bus lines corresponding to 300 and
500 meters (good and regular accessibility, respectively). Subsequently, the area map of the
lines with the population density map of the city was superimposed on Autodesk® AutoCAD®
2016 software. The main results were: (i) From the space accessibility analysis, it was verified
that the Alojamento/Conquista line is the one that covers more areas, and the Rapidinho line
that covers less; (ii) in the analysis of accessibility in relation to population density, the most
densely populated areas have good accessibility to the TPU, and the very high and high density
areas presented 92% and 94% of their areas with good accessibility, respectively. In order to
improve the accessibility of areas that are not properly serviced by TPU, it is proposed to extend
the Breu Branco line, Alojamento/Km4 and Alojamento/Conquista lines to serve the areas
where there is no accessibility currently, as well as the creation of a new line to attend new
districts of the city. Finally, it is concluded that the method is effective for the evaluation of
accessibility to the TPU of urban areas. |
