Lack of urban planning in Brazilian cities causes many issues related to the quality of transportation services. In view of this problem, a method for assessing the accessibility of the Urban Public Transportation System (TPU), with a study case in Tucuruí-PA, is presented in this research, in order to assist in decision-making in relation to urban planning and later improvements in the service offered. In order to carry out this method, it was necessary to use the database of Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) census tracts (population density), the OruxMaps mobile application that allowed the registration of the bus route and the city map. From these data were generated the areas of coverage of bus lines corresponding to 300 and 500 meters (good and regular accessibility, respectively). Subsequently, the area map of the lines with the population density map of the city was superimposed on Autodesk® AutoCAD® 2016 software. The main results were: (i) From the space accessibility analysis, it was verified that the Alojamento/Conquista line is the one that covers more areas, and the Rapidinho line that covers less; (ii) in the analysis of accessibility in relation to population density, the most densely populated areas have good accessibility to the TPU, and the very high and high density areas presented 92% and 94% of their areas with good accessibility, respectively. In order to improve the accessibility of areas that are not properly serviced by TPU, it is proposed to extend the Breu Branco line, Alojamento/Km4 and Alojamento/Conquista lines to serve the areas where there is no accessibility currently, as well as the creation of a new line to attend new districts of the city. Finally, it is concluded that the method is effective for the evaluation of accessibility to the TPU of urban areas. Os meios de transporte coletivo são componentes importantes para o desenvolvimento das sociedades. A falta de planejamento urbano das cidades brasileiras gera inúmeros problemas no que tange a qualidade do serviço de transporte. Diante dessa problemática, apresenta-se nessa pesquisa um método para avaliar a acessibilidade do sistema de Transporte Público Urbano (TPU), com estudo de caso em Tucuruí-PA, de modo à auxiliar na tomada de decisões em relação ao planejamento urbano e, subsidiar posteriores melhorias no serviço ofertado. Para a realização desse método foi necessário utilizar a base de dados dos setores censitários do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE) (densidade demográfica), o aplicativo para celular OruxMaps que permitiu o registro do itinerário das linhas de ônibus, além do mapa da cidade. A partir destes dados foram geradas as áreas de abrangências das linhas de ônibus correspondentes a 300 e 500 metros (boa e regular acessibilidade, respectivamente). Posteriormente, foram sobrepostos os mapas de área de abrangência das linhas com o mapa de densidade populacional da cidade no software Autodesk® AutoCAD® 2016. Os principais resultados foram: (i) na análise da acessibilidade espacial, verificou-se que a linha Alojamento/Conquista é a que cobre mais áreas, e a linha Rapidinho a que cobre menos; (ii) na análise de acessibilidade em relação à densidade populacional, as zonas mais densamente povoadas apresentam boa acessibilidade ao TPU, sendo que as zonas de densidade muito elevada e elevada apresentaram 92 e 94% de suas áreas com boa acessibilidade, respectivamente. Para melhorar a acessibilidade das zonas mal atendidas por TPU propõe-se a extensão das linhas Breu Branco, Alojamento/Km4 e Alojamento/Conquista para atendimento às áreas onde hoje não há acessibilidade, além da criação de uma nova linha interbairros a fim de atender os novos bairros do município.
