Our objective with this study was to contextualize the role of physical education in the fight against obesity in children. Physical education classes, with their specific body practices, provide a possible space for the adoption of measures to prevent and combat this epidemic of obesity in children. In this sense, we must understand the importance of school physical education as a tool for the prevention and treatment of childhood obesity, making children aware of this issue. In addition, we seek to identify the main causes and consequences of childhood obesity. For that, a bibliographic review was carried out with articles found in research platforms available on the internet such as: Google academic, Scielo, Periodical CAPES and others. Our results showed that childhood obesity reached alarming numbers as shown by data from the World Health Organization and these numbers worsened during the COVID – 19 pandemic. In this sense, we can conclude that with the prevalence of obesity in children in Brazil and the importance of preventing this disease, school and physical education classes have been considered the best spaces to address this issue, in addition to being important for interventions necessary that are within the reach of the physical education teacher and the school, since teachers with this very close contact with students, makes evident the possible effectiveness of physical education in combating childhood obesity. Este trabalho tem como tema “O papel da Educação Física escolar no combate à obesidade infantil”. O nosso objetivo com este estudo foi contextualizar o papel da educação física no combate à obesidade em crianças. As aulas de educação física com a sua especificidade de práticas corporais proporcionam um espaço possível para a adoção de medidas de prevenção e combate a esta epidemia da obesidade em crianças. Nesse sentido, devemos compreender a importância da educação física escolar como ferramenta de prevenção e tratamento da obesidade infantil conscientizando crianças a respeito desse assunto. Além disso, procuramos identificar as principais causas e consequências da obesidade infantil. Para tanto foi realizado uma revisão bibliográfica com artigos encontrados nas plataformas de pesquisa disponibilizadas na internet como: Google Acadêmico, Scielo, Periódico CAPES e outros. Nossos resultados mostraram que a obesidade infantil atingiu números alarmantes como mostram dados da Organização Mundial da Saúde e esses números se agravaram durante a pandemia de COVID – 19. Nesse sentido, podemos concluir que com a prevalência da obesidade em crianças no Brasil e a importância da prevenção sobre essa doença, a escola e as aulas de educação física têm sido consideradas os melhores espaços para se abordar esse assunto, além de serem importantes para as intervenções necessárias que estejam ao alcance do professor de educação física e da escola, visto que os professores com esse contato muito próximo aos alunos, deixa evidente a possível efetividade da educação física no combate a obesidade. 2023-01-11T14:09:03Z 2023-01-11T14:09:03Z 2022-08-15 Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso - Graduação MONTEIRO, João Tallysson da Cruz Palheta.
