Resumo:
The disposal of solid waste in Brazil is an increasingly discussed topic in meetings, forums and congresses, with the approval of laws and decrees and the mobilization of public authorities on some issues. However, the practices carried out by citizens involving the most appropriate disposal of waste still lack the development of a sense of collective responsibility towards the planet. In this context, the present work aimed to identify the behavior of residents of the city of Santa Luzia do Pará, Brazil regarding the use and disposal of waste cooking oil through an electronic questionnaire. Participants were approached in places such as churches, squares and other social spaces in the city. Thus, 124 people aged 18 to 91 participated. Inadequate practices were identified with the repeated reuse in frying and the improper disposal of this waste directly into nature. These results corroborate the behaviors described in the literature in other regions of Brazil and warn about the inefficiency and low adherence to legislation and solid waste management plans in Brazil by public authorities and the population in general, demonstrating how much progress needs to be made. in terms of municipal management plans and environmental education for the population of different age groups
