This work presents extremely relevant points for understanding the purpose of school feeding as an indispensable foundation for promoting education and growing conditions of equality. School feeding is a human and social right for all children, adolescents and adults who attend public schools and a duty of the State, Federal, State, municipal and district governments. The main objective of the article is to broaden the understanding of the social and political purpose of school feeding as a human right. With the aim of providing an in-depth discussion regarding fundamental issues for understanding rights, benefits, development analysis and control of public policies for the distribution of school meals in Brazil. To do so, we will analyze the PNAE guidelines and articles contained in law no. 11,947, of June 16, 2009, among other important factors.
