Deaf people born into hearing families often create strategies to communicate with family members. This research has the general objective of analyzing the use of the homemade sign system within the family. The specific objectives, to analyze, within the narratives, the form used for communication between the family and the deaf person, to analyze how family members of deaf people see the use of the homemade signaling system, reflecting on the ease of the homemade signaling system on the part of family members of the deaf person.The theoretical contribution was based on Scantbelruy (2022), Marx (2004), Duarte (2013) and Saviani (2013); homemade signal system is based on Scantbelruy (2022). The research has a qualitative approach (LAKATOS; MARCONI, 1993; MINAYO, 1993). The research was qualitative in nature and had field research as its methodological reference. The research method is based on the case study (DIVAN; OLIVEIRA, 2008, p. 189). As participants, the research included a deaf person and his sister. Bardin (2016) was used for the data analysis procedure. The results showed that the use of homemade signs is in fact the gateway to social, family and academic inclusion.
