Resumo:
This study aims to understand the change in the age profile of students in the Youth and Adult Education (EJA) program, which has become younger according to the Pedagogical Proposal for Youth, Adult, and Elderly Education in the municipal public network of Manaus. The following specific objectives were defined: to identify who the new subjects of EJA are, to find the possible causes that led them to enroll in EJA, and to define the new demands of today's youth regarding the schooling process. The methodology used was a qualitative approach for the exploratory field research, with a discussion group conducted with students from a second-grade class. The results indicate that these individuals experience their youth in distinct ways, with many having had unsuccessful experiences in school and seeking EJA as an alternative to complete their studies. Moreover, these individuals aspire to further their education in order to gain opportunities for entering the job market.
