The following specific objectives were defined: to identify who the new subjects of EJA are, to find the possible causes that led them to enroll in EJA, and to define the new demands of today's youth regarding the schooling process. The methodology used was a qualitative approach for the exploratory field research, with a discussion group conducted with students from a second-grade class. The results indicate that these individuals experience their youth in distinct ways, with many having had unsuccessful experiences in school and seeking EJA as an alternative to complete their studies. Moreover, these individuals aspire to further their education in order to gain opportunities for entering the job market. O presente trabalho visa compreender a mudança no perfil etário dos estudantes da EJA, que tem se tornado mais jovem de acordo com a Proposta Pedagógica para Educação de Jovens, Adultos e Idosos da rede pública municipal de Manaus. Para isso foram definidos os seguintes objetivos específicos: Identificar quem são os novos sujeitos da EJA; encontrar as possíveis causas que os levaram a ingressar na EJA e delimitar as novas demandas da juventude atual em relação ao processo de escolarização. Como metodologia utilizou-se a abordagem qualitativa para a pesquisa de campo exploratória com um grupo de discussão realizado com alunos de uma turma do 2o segmento. Os resultados apontam que estes sujeitos vivem sua condição juvenil de maneiras distintas, nota-se que estes possuem passagens mal-sucedidas pela escola e buscam a EJA como uma alternativa para concluir seus estudos.
