In the sandbanks of Algodoal and Maiandeua islands, the Convolvulaceae Juss. family is represented by the genus Ipomoea L. through the species I. asarifolia (Desr.) Roemer & Schultes, I. goyazensis Gardner, I. pes-caprae (L.) R. Brow and I. stolonifera (Cyrili) Gmelin. We used material collected on the islands of Maiandeua and Algodoal and specimens from the MPEG herbarium. Morphological observations were made using a ZEISS stereomicroscope with a clear camera. The nomenclature used to indicate the shape and indentation of morphological structures was based on the works of LAWREN CE (1973) and RIZINNI (1977). I. asarifolia is a reptile herb, with latescent stem, cordate leaves, lilac to purple corona. I. goyazensis is a vine that grows on shrubs, with cordate to slightly oval leaves, crimson-red corolla. I. pes-caprae is a latescent stem herb with obcordiform to oval leaves, emarginate apex, rarely aculeate, slightly fleshy, lilac to purple corolla. I. stolonifera is a reptile herb with linear, lanceolate or rarely oblong leaves, slightly emarginate apex, white corolla. Some characteristics of leaf anatomy are being studied in order to help in the separation of the species (CNPq/Museu Goeldi).
