As part of this process, this research intended to investigate and understand the reasons for the permanence of indigenous people in the Graduate Programs of the Federal University of Amazonas. For this, 7 interviews were carried out with indigenous students and with the secretariats of the postgraduate programs to which they belong, following all ethical procedures, with subsequent transcription and content analysis according to Bardin. The results indicate the complexity and difficulty of being an indigenous university student, the need for changes in academic structures and programs. It is necessary to understand, record and understand each reality in order to carry out timely and effective actions. Através de reivindicações e políticas de ações afirmativas, cada vez mais os povos indígenas têm ingressado no ensino superior. Como recorte desse processo, esta pesquisa pretendeu investigar e compreender os motivos de permanência dos indígenas nos Programas de Pós-Graduação da Universidade Federal do Amazonas. Para isso, foram realizadas 7 entrevistas com os estudantes indígenas e com as secretarias dos programas de pós-graduação aos quais pertencem, seguindo todos procedimentos éticos, com posterior transcrição e análise de conteúdos segundo Bardin. Os resultados indicam a complexidade e dificuldade de ser universitário indígena, a necessidade de mudanças nas estruturas acadêmicas e programas.
