With this in mind, it is necessary to reflect on the training of professionals who will work in classrooms as teachers, whether teaching the language as a first language or as an additional language. This research has the general objective of reflecting on the use of the Portuguese language in its oral modality in the classroom spaces of the Letras Libras course - UFAM. The specific objectives are to identify the reasons that lead the faculty of the course to use this resource and to verify the Political Pedagogical Project of the Course regarding the topic of language of instruction. The theoretical contribution was based on Quadros, Cerny, Pereira (2008), Albres (2014), Carmo (2022), Santiago, Andrade (2013) and Santos (2018). About the PPC, the research was based on UFAM (2014). The research has a qualitative character and had documental research and field research as methodological reference. Bardin (2016) was used for data analysis procedures. Six professors, currently acting in the Letras Libras college, were interviewed. The results showed that the use of the Portuguese language as a teaching-learning strategy is dependent on many factors outside the teacher's control. As a contribution, it is suggested that the PPC be revised, recommending Libras as instruction and interaction language. O curso de Letras Libras surge no intuito de atender as necessidades de ensino-aprendizagem do sujeito surdo. Com isto em mente, é necessário refletir sobre a formação dos profissionais que irão atuar nas salas de aula como professores, quer seja para o ensino da língua como primeira língua ou como língua adicional. Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo geral refletir quanto ao uso da língua portuguesa em sua modalidade oral nos espaços de sala de aula do curso de Letras Libras - UFAM. Os objetivos específicos são identificar as razões que levam o corpo docente do curso a usar este recurso e verificar o Projeto Político Pedagógico do Curso quanto ao tema de língua de instrução. O aporte teórico foi embasado em Quadros, Cerny, Pereira (2008), Albres (2014), Carmo (2022), Santiago, Andrade (2013) e Santos (2018). Sobre o PPC, a pesquisa foi fundamentada em UFAM (2014). A pesquisa tem caráter qualitativo e teve como referencial metodológico pesquisa documental e pesquisa de campo. Utilizou-se Bardin (2016) para os procedimentos de análise dos dados. Entrevistou-se 6 docentes no atual exercício do curso de Letras Libras. Os resultados apontaram que o uso da língua portuguesa como estratégia de ensino-aprendizagem é dependente de muitos fatores alheios ao controle do docente.
