The study refers to aspects related to the difficulty to teach and learn mathematical
content in the classroom, made through a quantitative and qualitative research that seeks to understand the challenges encountered by both teachers and students in a school environment in the municipality of. Castanhal-Shovel. In this purpose, a theoretical approach is made regarding the process of applying the methods that involve the teaching of mathematics. Then, a structured interview script was elaborated, obeying the specificities of the subjects of the researched entity, relating them the importance of the teacher, the encouragement of mathematics learning, the applied methodology and the difficulties in the teaching-learning process of the subject in question, as well as in their daily application. The answers given to these questions were analyzed and interpreted from theorists who study the theme as D´Ambrósio (1998), Libaneo (1994), Bessa (2005) and documents from the Ministry of Education as the Curriculum Parameters of High School (2000).
