Castanhal-Shovel. In this purpose, a theoretical approach is made regarding the process of applying the methods that involve the teaching of mathematics. Then, a structured interview script was elaborated, obeying the specificities of the subjects of the researched entity, relating them the importance of the teacher, the encouragement of mathematics learning, the applied methodology and the difficulties in the teaching-learning process of the subject in question, as well as in their daily application. The answers given to these questions were analyzed and interpreted from theorists who study the theme as D´Ambrósio (1998), Libaneo (1994), Bessa (2005) and documents from the Ministry of Education as the Curriculum Parameters of High School (2000). O estudo refere-se a aspectos relacionados a dificuldade para ensinar e aprender conteúdos matemáticos em sala de aula, feito por meio de uma pesquisa quantiqualitativa em que se busca entender quais os desafios encontrados tanto por professores como estudantes em ambiente escolar no Município de Castanhal-PA. Neste propósito, faz-se uma abordagem teórica no que tange ao processo de aplicação dos métodos que envolvem o ensino da matemática. Em seguida, elaborou-se um roteiro de entrevista estruturada, obedecendo às especificidades dos sujeitos da entidade pesquisada, relacionando-os a importância do professor, ao incentivo do aprendizado da matemática, à metodologia aplicada e às dificuldades no processo de ensino-aprendizagem da disciplina em questão, assim como em sua aplicação cotidiana.
